Why Learn
Spanish? Spanish is a member of the Romance language
group in the Italic subfamily of the Indo-European
language family and it is one of the easiest foreign
languages to learn. Much of its vocabulary is similar to
English's, and written Spanish is almost completely
phonetic: Look at almost any Spanish word and you can
tell how it is pronounced. And while mastering the
grammar of Spanish can be a challenge, basic grammar is
straightforward enough that you can have meaningful
communication after only a few lessons
The Spanish Language is the official language of Spain
and the native language of 322 million to 358 million
people in the world. Many of those people live in the
other countries where Spanish is the official language:
Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba,
the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Equatorial
Guinea, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama,
Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela. Spanish is also
the official language of the commonwealth of Puerto Rico
and is widely spoken in several other nations, including
Canada, Morocco, the Philippines, and the United States.
It is predicted that by the year 2020, 51 million people
will speak Spanish in the US. Approximately 17.5 million
people (10% of the US population) speak Spanish
It is a Dominant language spoken
in 21 countries on five continents. US companies are
well-established in all Spanish-speaking countries
(e.g., there are 24 US banks in Mexico City alone)
The Spanish language boasts a
literary history that includes authors such as Miguel de
Cervantes of Spain, Gabriela Mistral and Pablo Neruda of
Chile, and Octavio Paz of Mexico.
